During the days of Jesus, you could but five sparrows for the price of four. The fifth sparrow was thrown in for free. Yet of that extra bird the Lord declared, “And not one of them is forgotten before God.” Jesus then tenderly said, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:6-7). Evangelist Don Pruitt reminds us that God knows that fifth sparrow, and He knows you too.
Service to the Lord is a life-long commitment. There is no retirement plan for Christ’s soldiers. Evangelist Rick Martin reminds us that we have a responsibility to God which should motivate our work for Him all the days of our lives even into old age.
Sin has a way of weighing us down, but the Lord and His people can help us bear the burdens of life. As the apostle Paul wrote: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). Evangelist Todd Richardson encourages us to be the kind of Christian who looks to help others in times of need.
Does prayer actually do anything? Some believe prayer is a spiritual discipline designed merely to thank God for the blessings of life. Yet, as evangelist Glen Osburn teaches, the Bible declares that prayer has the power to move God, change His mind, and call upon Him to intervene in the world.
What do we value? There are frequently things in life that we consider precious and valuable only to realize later that they were trivial. Todd Bernard reminds us that the word of God can help us to reorient our thinking that we might align our standards of value to the Lord’s.
